Ceratarges ziregensisDescription: This spiny trilobite is a member of the Order Lichida, Family Lichida from the Devonian deposits of Zireg, Morocco known as a member of the genus Ceratarges. It was assigned a species name a few years ago the source of which is derived from the location of discovery. Most spines have been prepared freestanding on the cephalon as well as those on the axial and the pygidial spines making for a dramatic display with numerous freestanding spines. Some examples of the genus display subspines, e.g., Ceratarges sp, but this one does not. It is an excellent example of the taxon with numerous bizarre features. See my other offerings for yet another members of the genus, Ceratarges koumalii and new species Ceratarges aries.
