Ceratarges koumaliiDescription: The spiny trilobite is a member of the Order Lichida, Family Lichida from the “Ceratarges horizon” Devonian deposits of Zireg, Morocco known as a member of the genus Ceratarges. It was assigned a species name a few years ago the source of which is derived from the location of discovery. It differs from the other two described species from the site in that it has a more inflated glabella and a distinct pygidial axial spine. Most spines have been prepared freestanding on the cephalon as well as those on the axial and the pygidial spines making for a dramatic display with numerous freestanding spines. It is an excellent example of the taxon with numerous bizarre features. See my other offerings for yet other members of the genus, Ceratarges ziregensis and Ceratrges aries.
