Name:
Ammonidea indet.
Geological Time:
Devonian (~350 million years ago)
Fossil Site: Sahara Desert, Morocco
These are gorgeous ammonite pendants. They come from the Devonian
deposits of the Sahara Desert of Morocco, and are from a time
and place similar to that of the Orthoceras (straight shell)
ammonites that often are made into tabletops, stoneware, and
other cut and polished items of distinctive beauty. Each matrix
has been hand cut and polished to make for a unique item. The
mountings will need occasional cleaning with a rouge cloth to
restore their dramatic luster. My wife thought they looked like
something by Picasso, and the importer seized upon that as a
name for these individual works of Nature’s art.
