Description: A member of the Order Corynexochida, Family Styginidae from the Middle Devonian deposits of Aatchana, Morocco, this is a member of the genus Metascutellum. The pustulose nature distinguishes it from most other scutellids with the exception of some in the genus Scutellum, and the genus Goldius (see my other listings for an example). This one most closely resembles Metascutellum pustulatum, but that species does not have the dorsal axial spines of this specimen. Consequently, this one is either an as yet undescribed subspecies or a new species altogether. Note the fine facets of the left eye.
