Description: Interesting example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Family Phacopidae with many fine details present. There were a number of new genera erected in the last part of the previous decade, with Austerops being one of them. This species is Austerops kermiti, with the species name derived from the perceived appearance of the cephalon, most specifically the glabellar profile, for the well-known Muppet frog Kermit, showing that scientists can have a sense of humor. The rich black exoskeleton stands out well against the light gray matrix, making for a pleasing display piece. Also see Austerops smoothops from another Moroccan trilobite site.
