Superb Spinodontochile Moroccan Trilobite

Spinodontochile aff spinifer

Trilobites Order Phacopida, Family Dalmanitidae

Geological Time: Lower Devonian

Size: Trilobite fossil is 75 mm long

Fossil Site: Jebel Issoumour, Alnif, Morocco

SpinodontochileDescription: A elegant example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Family Dalmanitidae with many fine details present. While this one is similar to the trilobite Zilchovaspis rgosa, often termed Odontochile, it is a different genus. Where Zilchovaspis displays rugosities (bumps) on the thorax, this one has more pronounced ones. Indeed , the describer chose to make this distinction by using spine in both the genus as species names of this dramatic taxon. It is only the third I have been able to secure. The spines are truncated, rendering this a most affordable example of this unusual taxon.
