Greenops boothi

Trilobite Order Phacopida, Subfamily Asteropyginae

Geological Time: Middle Devonian

Size: Trilobite is 25 mm

Fossil Site: Moscow Formation, Eighteen Mile Creek , North Evans, New York

New York Greenops boothi TrilobiteDescription: A very good example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Subfamily Asteropyginae with dramatic genal and pygidial spines. This one is missing a bit of exoskeleton on the glabella. The right side of the cephalon and thorax are a bit compressed, though fully present. The Asteropyginae have recently undergone extensive revision, with several members of the genus now placed in the recently erected genera Bellacartwrightia and Kennacryphaeus. Most are usually found as disarticulated specimens, but this one is quite complete, with fine eye facets.

The species also comes from the Widder Shale, Hamilton Group, Arkona, Ontario, Canada.
