DrotopsDescription: This plate displays a dramatic example of a trilobite once termed “Phacops rana africanus”, now called Drotops megalomanicus found in the Devonian deposits of region Ma’der near Erfoud, Morocco. This is a stunning example of a new preparation technique being Drotops megalomanicusattempted by my main supplier of quality Moroccan trilobites. Relocating to a facility which has a reliable supply of consistent electricity, they have just begun to turn out material never before seen in such dramatic fashion.

Drotops hypostomeA great deal of prep time went into freestanding this specimen. Notice even the hypostome can be seen from below, and all the pleural elements have been prepared free of matrix, except for the last few and the pygidium, serving to anchor this wonderful example. You must agree that the end result was worth all the extra effort, making this an impressive example of the preparator’s skill.
