This is a very fine example of essentially complete shells of two tortoises known as Protestudo hipparion coming from the Late Miocene deposits of Ganshu Province, China. The preservation is quite good, both of the dorsal shell, or carapace, and the ventral shell, or plastron. Tortoises and turtles are rarely offered for sale, and few are in this good a state.
