Dorypyge swasii TrilobiteDescription: A spectacular example of this rarely-offered spiny trilobite, this one is stunning. Dorypyge is the patronymic genus of the Dorypygidae, a sought-after family of trilobites from the western United States. It was prepared by one of the most sought-after artisans of the craft, a preparator who has a 2 year backlog of subjects. His fine craftsmanship is readily apparent – notice the axial spines. Some have a small bit of matrix left in order to prevent their being broken off. While you may be able to find a less expensive example, you would be hard-put to find one better prepared than this one. Many hours of exacting work went into this specimen, but you can see it was well worth it.
