Thysanopeltis TYPE CDescription: A member of the Order Corynexochida, Family Thysanopeltidae from the Devonian deposits of Taouz, Morocco, this is an ENTIRELY NEW Thysanopeltis. It is distinguished by the fringing pygidial spines from Scabriscutellum, and from Scutellum by the ribbing of the pygidium. What makes this one distinctive is the fringing spines of the pygidium, something seen in only two other trilobites from the region, the uncommon Thysanopeltis speciosa and Thysanopletis Type B. The difference here is the robust nature of the spines. This one was just seen this year at the Tucson show, and I was able to secure one of the three examples I saw. The source of this amazing trilobite is the Moroccan dealer whose trilobite museum was featured in David Attenborough’s “Early Life” show on the BBC last fall. Note the eye facets as seen in the photomicrographs.
