Calmoniidae Moroccan TrilobiteDescription: Unusual example of a member of the Order Phacopida, with many fine details present. It looks for all the world to be related to that famous prevaricating puppet Pinocchio before telling a spate of whoppers. Just discovered within the past year, it is yet to be described, although a researcher in Spain is studying a similar taxon with a greatly elongated rostrum. While it looks to have affinities with Morocconites, it possess pointed genals, and the rostrum here is far, far more reduced. While related to the taxon with the longer rostrum from the same new Issoumour location, it is definitely not the same in that this one has SIX lenses per file versus FOUR for the other type. I wonder how the battle between taxonomic lumpers vs splitters will shake out for this one. See my other listings for the longer rostrum type of Calmoniidae.
