Kaserops morocanensisDescription: Elegant example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Subfamily Asteropyginae with many fine details present. Notice the fine eye facets present on this specimen. The Asteropyginae recently have undergone revision. This one is the true Kayserops, distinguished as such by the elongated pygidial spines. The trilobite called “Kayserops’ in the fossil trade is actually Metacanthina issoumourensis, a far more commonly-available member of the Asteropyginae. Of a recent shipment of hundreds of trilobites from the region, this was the sole example of this taxon found. It is the first I have been able to obtain in eight years and only the SECOND I have ever had. The rich dark exoskeleton is well-contrasted to the light matrix block, making this both an elegant and rare addition to any collection.
