 Description:
This unusual trilobite comes from a new location known as Jorf
in Morocco, close to the site from which the polished goniatie
ammonites originate. The preservation of the exoskeleton is reminiscent
of them in terms of texture, unlike many trilobites from Morocco.
This one is a rarely offered member of the genus Tropidocoryphe,
and is only the SECOND I have secured in 12 years The genus derives
it names from a feature found in proetids termed the tropidium,
a line of pits in the glabella that may have served a sensory function.
The genus is in need of revision to separate true members of the
genus from the closely-allied Astrocoryphe, as well as determine
which generic names are valid. With a surge in interest in specimens
from Jorf we can only hope to see even more unusual material coming
to light. |
