Mystery Moroccan TrilobiteDescription: Unusual example of a member of the Order Proetida, this one is a bit of a quandary. I asked a friend who has vast experience with the Proetids what it could be. It has 10 9 segments visible, which led to a possible identification as Eremiproetus. However the possibility exists that a tenth segment has been pushed under the thorax post mortem. If that is the case, it may well be another example of Cornuproetus aff cornutus (see my other offerings). It is not a case of having been doctored during preparation as no evidence of such can be discerned under UV lighting. So which genus: Eremiproetus or Cornuproetus? If the former it is easily would double the asking price. If the latter it is still inexpensive. Either way it is a bargain.
