Cyphaspis eberhardiei TrilobiteDescription: Unusual example of a member of the Order Proetida, Family Otarionidae with many fine details present. This one has been called the long-spined Cyphaspis, and was recently named Cyphaspis eberhardiei after the UK fossil dealer Brian Eberhardie who has long donated specimens of significant scientific value to researchers. The most diagnostic features of this taxon are the high stalked eyes, elongated spines, and granulose bulbous cephalon. It is the closest in morphology to the type species of the genus found in Europe. This one has been prepared in such a way that matrix has been removed from beneath each spine and the trilobite is displayed on a matrix pedestal to afford a most dramatic display specimen, a time-consuming, delicate task.
