Dorypyge and Altiocculus TrilobitesDescription: A spectacular example of this rarely-offered spiny trilobite, this one is stunning. Dorypyge is the patronymic genus of the Dorypygidae, a sought-after family of trilobites from the western United States. This one has been prepared with the several axial spines freestanding. What makes this even more unusual is the association with a second trilobite, a disarticulated Altiocculus drumensisexample of Altiocculus drumensis. The derivation of the species name is quite obvious These trilobites are often found with disarticulated or missing free cheeks. While you may be able to find a less expensive example, you would be hard-put to find one better prepared than this one. Many hours of exacting work went into this specimen, but you can see it was well worth it. It is quite unusual to find examples of two of the dominant orders of Cambrian trilobites in association.
