Ananaspis serrataDescription: Coming from the famous Humevale Formation of Victoria, Australia this is an example of Anaspis similar to A. serrata. The formation spans the late Silurian to Early Devonian. While many fine Echinoderm fossils are found in this stratum, trilobites are sometimes found as well. The trilobite is missing the anterior portion, a typical state of preservation. The dark exoskeleton is in sharp contrast to the reddish matrix, serving to highlight the trilobite. This site is no longer open, so no further examples from this location will ever be available. See my other listings in Trilobites and Echinoderms for more examples of Humevale Formation material.
