Echinolichas coccymelumDescription: Bizarre example of an exceptionally rare Echinolichas trilobite which is only known from parts as here. This trilobite was prepared by Bob Carroll, a world-renowned preparator of Oklahoma Devonian trilobites. Others may use less care, resulting in a less desirable specimen. The cranidium and pygidium were found in proximity to each other, so Bob is certain they belong to the same specimen. He has placed them here in roughly life position. Being the stickler that he is, Bob noted on the bottom that it is a composite. He also states it was found in what he terms the “Cord layer” in the quarry, a spot in which most of the Cordania trilobites are found (see my other offerings). This is the most Bob has found of the enigmatic taxon in the 20+ years he has worked the quarry. I have placed a question mark after the genus as evidently the researcher who name this one applied the name to 2 distinctively different cranidia. I apologize for the many photos, but except for the astute buyer of this specimen, that’s all the rest of you will ever likely see.
