Struveaspis moroccanicaDescription: Elegant example of a member of the Order Phacopida, Family Phacopidae with many fine details present. It comes from a new location known as Jorf in Morocco, close to the site from which the polished goniatite ammonites originate. The preservation of the exoskeleton is reminiscent of them in terms of texture, unlike many trilobites from Morocco. The most diagnostic features of this taxon are the fine schizochroal eyes which in this case are of far fewer files than in the common Phacops speculator. It also differs from that taxon in that it has a broader cephalon and a smooth exoskeleton. This type of trilobite has variable numbers of eye facets, ranged from what is seen here to a mere handful. Struveaspis is a most uncommon taxon found in the Devonian of Morocco and the Czech Republic.
