Permian Reptile IchnofossilsDescription: Well-preserved examples of a two very different types of trace fossils. There are numerous tiny (3 mm by 2 mm) traces with a center line and a larger 12 mm by 10 mm three-toed track somewhat below it. At first I thought the sinuous trail might have been an arthropod trackway, but if you look closely, you will see that several of the traces show a distinct 3-toed nature. Taking that into consideration and that the center line is most likely a tail drag, you have a pair of dissimilar reptile tracks on one large piece of sandstone. I like trackway fossils in that they represent a moment in the behavior of the trackmakers frozen for all time.
