Conifer Plant FossilDescription: The deposits of the Liaoning and Hebei Provinces of China are best known for their wonderful faunal assemblages, but plants are preserved as well. This fantastic diversity and exquisite detail is unprecedented throughout the world. This is a small branch from the conifer Elatocladus. Conifers were abundant throughout the Mesozoic, with many forms occurring well into the Cretaceous. As yet, all conifers from the Yixian Formation belong to extinct genera. I was only able to secure a few examples of plants with my last group of Yixian insects. They comprised less than 10% of the specimens I received.
