A superb example from Messel, one of the world's premier Lagerstatten sites. This uncommon species is the equivalent of the Priscacara from the Green River formation in the U.S. This particular specimen exhibits significant soft tissue preservation for which the Messel fossils are noted. Definitely, a world-class fossil. Notice the EXCEPTIONAL degree of preservation found. Much soft tissue, including most of the scales can still be seen, as well as the fine bones of the fins. Those who collect the fine Green River Eocene specimens of Wyoming will want to consider adding this fine example of the Eocene of Germany to their collection. A stunning fossil.
