Description: The slender compressed body betrays this as an eel. While listed as Muraena (Moray Eels), it is actually a member of the genus Conger. The Monte Bolca deposits of Northern Italy are a famous Eocene site from which fossils have been collected since the 16 th Century, with over 150 species known. Most are found in museums, and few are offered for sale. Collectors of Green River Formation fish should take note of the 45 mm long bump in the upper left. This is often a dead giveaway that a fish is found beneath. Perhaps the buyer will have an opportunity to see if a second example lies within.
