Cambrian Explosion Putative Phoronid FossilDescription: I have no idea what this enigmatic creature might be; in view of its resemblance to the spindle with skewers used to hold sweet corn, it has been colloquially termed the “corn cob holder”. There is decided annulation to the body, and the spikes at the end (which end, front or back?) are quite evident. This is an exceptionally well-preserved example of these strange creatures, one of the best examples I have seen. Some think it resembles the Phoronid Iotuba chengjiangesis from the Chengjiang Biota of China. The Weeks Formation continues to provide an astonishing diversity of problematic forms!
