Dominican Amber Rove Beetle and Scuttle FlyDescription: This amber piece displays an uncommon Rove Beetle (Staphylinidae). Modern–day Rove Beetles have a preference for moist habitats, perhaps offering some clues to the nature of the amber forests of the Dominican Republic of the past.. The fly is a member of the Phoridae, or Scuttle Flies. These hump-backed flies derive their common name from the habit of rapid running along a surface rather than taking wing to escape danger.
