Sinorhagio daohuguoensis Insect FossilDescription: The Daohuguo Beds in Inner Mongolia have yielded a fauna much like that of the somewhat younger Yixian Formation. This is a fine snipe fly known as Sinorhagio. The specific name is derived from the valley in which the first specimen was found some 5 years ago, a site that has yield several members of the Brachycera. The modern snipe flies are vicious biters that are close relatives of deer flies. Notice the excellent details seen here in the color banding of the abdomen and the segmented antennae.
