Description:
A fine pair of Devonian trilobites that care eye-catching from
any aspect. The spiny example is a member of the genus Leonaspis.
While some prefer Kettnersapis over Leonaspis based upon the pygidial
spines, it is definitely a desirable member of the taxon. See my
other offerings for a species possessing a long occipital spine
which has earned it the species name spinicurva. The other trilobite
is Cornuproetus ccornutus. The most diagnostic features of this
taxon are granulose cephalon and thorax and the swept-back genal
spines. The
Proetidae were among the last of the trilobites to go extinct in
the Permian over 100 million years later. |
