Fossil
Site: Haragan Formation, Coal County, Clarita, Oklahoma
Description:
Well-preserved example of a member of the Order Proetida, Family
Aulacopleuridae,. One of the reasons for the fine preservation
is the fact that this trilobite was prepared by Bob Carroll,
a world-renowned preparator of Oklahoma Devonian trilobites.
Bob has worked on Oklahoma trilobites for some 25 years now (see
photo of bottom of piece). During that time he has prepared countless
specimens, and has given away scientifically significant examples
to research institutions. He was honored in 1997 by having this
diminutive trilobite named for him. I have known Bob since my
first visit to Tucson in 2001. The first trilobite of Bob’s
in my collection is an example of this trilobite which he autographed
for me. To have a trilobite, collected by Bob, prepared by Bob,
and signed by Bob is most significant to me, a symbol of our
long-standing friendship.
